About this course

Gastroparesis is an under-recognised yet surprisingly common condition that causes nausea, bloating, early satiety, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort. Defined by delayed gastric emptying without a physical obstruction, it is frequently misdiagnosed due to its symptom overlap with other gastrointestinal disorders.

At the heart of gastroparesis lies a dysfunction of the enteric nervous system, often referred to as the "brain in the gut." Christina Carew takes you deep into the physiology of gastric function and its neurological control, giving you a solid clinical understanding of what goes wrong - and why.

You’ll learn about the many known contributors to gastroparesis, including diabetes, connective tissue disorders, neurological conditions, infections, malignancy, and more. Christina also breaks down the differential diagnoses and shows you how to distinguish gastroparesis from other GI conditions with similar presentations.

Importantly, up to 90% of cases go undiagnosed. This course will show you how to identify the subtle signs, recommend the right investigations, and avoid misdiagnosis. You'll also learn how to support your patients effectively - with targeted dietary strategies, medication review, and care plans tailored to the severity and underlying cause of their symptoms.

Whether you have patients already diagnosed or those with unexplained digestive complaints, this course will give you the tools to improve outcomes and deliver more accurate, effective care.
