About this course

There's an old adage "You're as old as your Arteries". Recent research is proving this to be true but conventional medicine does not adequately address vascular ageing. Just like our skin and other parts of our body, our arteries also age.

In youth, our elastic arteries, especially in the aorta are in optimal interaction with the heart. This ensures optimal and steady blood flow throughout the body. Arterial stiffening typically occurs with ageing and contributes to high blood pressure, cardiac failure, and damage to distant organs, especially heart and kidney.

Diet and lifestyle can play a role in the progression of arterial ageing.  Through an understanding of the pathophysiology and emerging science, arterial ageing in your patients may be delayed.  The use of carotid ultrasound measuring, carotid intima media thickness is one helpful way to measure this.
